DBB Women Fight for European Championship Qualification After Loss to Belgium
The German national basketball team of women has to worry about the qualification for the European Championship.
The DBB selection lost 44:69 (19:34) in Wolfenbüttel against leaders Belgium and is in second place with a record of 3: 2. The team of national coach Walt Hopkins must now hope to reach the European Championships in Slovenia and Israel (June 15th to 25th) as one of the four best group runners-up. In order to continue to have an opportunity for the first European Championship participation in twelve years, Germany must win the game in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday (8:00 p.m.). The Hopkins team got off to a weak start and was 9:22 behind after ten minutes. Belgium repeatedly came over Emma Weissmann on simple points. The DBB selection came into the game better in the second section, but Belgium was much better and more effective. After the change of sides, the guests again showed their qualities and gave no chance at the end of the German national team.
The best thrower for Germany were Alexandra Wilde and Marie Gulch with ten points each.
